"Veggies" |
Veggies is a light box that allows a different look at vegetables by enhancing our observation in a way where transparent textures, folds or stamens are discovered. The light box displays vegetables in detail as if x-rays or macro pictures were taken. By making a close look, I intend to have people observing them in a different way, not just as daily products that are bought in food stores. Not a long time ago and while buying vegetables, I happened to perceive them in a different way. They were no more vegetables wrapped in plastic but instead shapes of unpredictable textures. Consumers were indifferently buying unaware of their beauty. It was at that moment that Veggies was born in an attempt to stimulate our observations and concerns about ecology. Enoki mushrooms, ciboulette, spinach and sage were scanned and digitally reworked. I wanted to respect the original characteristics of the vegetables by only modifying their color and size. By resizing them to almost 600%, I expected to intensify our perception and interests about ecology. My practice is multidisciplinary and concerned with ways of enhancing the observation of our daily space. I have been exploring traditional and digital techniques for the past years. I like to incorporate digital technologies as tools that help me in the creative process; they are useful to do compositional and color studies. On the other hand, I work with digital interventions that are a visible part of the final artwork. My process is about improving my artistic skills, keeping up to date with digital technology and studying the history or art; it is this continuous search of knowledge that nourishes the creation of my images. I am interested in perception as a way of enhancing our observation of quotidian object. This artifacts might be souvenirs of our childhood or as simple as vegetables and fruits that we buy on daily bases. Part of my practice is a response to the way how immigrants related to their native culture; this exploration is manifested in the artworks where I explore Buenos Aries, my town of origin. My art manifests in multidisciplinary process such as digital prints, installations, drawings, paintings, screen prints and book designs. I earned a degree in Análisis de Sistemas in Buenos Aires (UBA). After some years, I decide to reorient my carrier into the artistic field and I earn a Certificat en Arts plastiques in Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and a degree in Illustration & Design at Dawson College, Montreal. I also earn a Bachelor in Studio Arts in Concordia University, Montreal, 2008. For the past two years, I have participated in international art contest and won several prizes in USA and Spain; I have in consequence exhibited in Spain and Italy during 2007. This year I have group exhibitions in Montreal. |
