The current mixed media paintings are textured memories, visual responses to a range of personal experiences. The series les couleurs du Mandé (Mali) –The Colors of the Mandé–was inspired by the artist’s recent trip to West Africa, her childhood home. Mandé refers to the traditional homelands of the Mandingo people. The paintings evoke both the landscape and the culture through the abstract use of color, form, and collaged materials.
